What we usually stock

We focus on shibari rope that handles well for kinbaku. We stock what many consider the best shibari rope: Ogawa jute and POSH.

Hand treated Japanese jute with a smooth, responsive feel, prepared for tying.
    €15 / 8 m

  • POSH · 5 mm
Low-stretch, washable synthetic that handles like natural rope, with a known working limit. Great for regular practice, floor work, and suspension.
    €15 / 8 m

  • Basic safety scissors
Simple trauma shears for safe rope cutting, but show signs of wear after a few uses. €5

  • Folding Emergency Response Shears
Heavy duty multifunctional shears with strap cutter, glass breaker, and holster.
    €25

  • Rope spikes
Shibari rope spikes in two styles, print spikes that leave decorative marks, and standard spikes for stronger sensation.
    €1-5 depending on design

Rope kit bundles

Most people start with three ropes. If you plan to practise often, five gives you room to grow. If you want to explore suspension, eight or more gives you flexibility. If you want a full working set, twelve covers you.

You can choose Ogawa jute, POSH, or a mix. If you want consistent handling, pick one rope type for the whole kit.

All kit prices include the listed safety shears. Snip happens, so we plan for it.

Starter Kit

  • 3 × 8 m POSH or Jute
  • 1 × basic safety shears
    €45

Practice Kit

  • 5 × 8 m POSH or Jute
  • 1 × basic safety shears
    €70

Suspension Eight

  • 8 × 8 m POSH or Jute (mix possible)

Complete Twelve

  • 12 × 8 m POSH or Jute (mix possible)

For suspension-focused kits, we suggest POSH for most or all of the set. A mix of jute and POSH also works well.

Rope choices in short

Here is the quick version if you just want to decide and go:

  • Natural jute or hemp

    • Classic kinbaku look and feel
    • Light in the hand
    • Needs more care, airing, and checking
  • POSH and other “natural-behaving” synthetics

    • Tough and low-maintenance
    • Washable, good for sweaty rope jams and frequent practice
    • Forgiving for newer riggers
    • Known working limit, good for suspension work

If you want a simple mental model: natural rope is the Japanese carbon steel kitchen knife. It needs care, but rewards you with feel and beauty. POSH is the stainless workhorse. It handles rough use and cleans easily. Both “cut” the same, so it comes down to what you enjoy maintaining and working with.

Treatment and care

POSH

POSH needs almost no treatment and softens quickly with use.

To speed it up, run it back and forth through a carabiner, or over smooth metal, to warm and flex the fibres.

Jute

Our Ogawa jute is pre-treated and worked to reduce fuzz and loose fibres. You can extend its life with gentle care:

  1. Apply a trace amount of oil to keep fibres supple (jojoba, camellia, or mineral oil).
  2. Optional, add a very light wax layer.
  3. Let regular tying do the rest.

What to avoid:

  • Excess water weakens natural fibres over time.
  • High heat and flames reduce strength.
  • Aggressive “breaking in” breaks fibres and shortens rope life.

A note on smell and batching oil (JBO)

Most Japanese jute, including ours, gets processed with a petroleum-based jute batching oil (JBO). JBO is .

We treat our jute to reduce residue and smell, but a slight scent can remain, especially when the rope warms up in use. Hanging the rope to air and using it gently helps it fade over time.

We are also working on sourcing jute batched with alternative oils (such as soybean). That stock costs more. Message us if you want details or want us to reserve a set.

If we are out of stock or you prefer to buy elsewhere

We’d rather you keep tying than wait on us.

  • We can reserve shibari rope from the next batch for you.
  • If you want a full set, tell us your ideal number of ropes, thickness, and length — custom lengths are no problem.

Safety gear

Rope is replaceable. Your partner is not.

Bring dedicated safety cutters for every scene.
Keep them in an easy-to-grab place that both the rigger and partner(s) know about.

Good options include:

  • Trauma or EMT shears, affordable but they blunt and need replacing
  • Rock-climbing or rescue shears, built to last longer
  • Blunt-tipped cutters made to slice rope fast and clean

Test your scissors on a spare piece of your rope. One firm squeeze should give a clean cut. If it does not, upgrade your tool before you do more intense work.

Rope spikes

We usually have a selection of shibari rope spikes available in two styles.

These spikes leave a decorative print or logo on your skin when pressed against it with rope. Designs vary, ask what we have right now.

Standard spikes

These spikes slide onto rope and create sharp pressure points that dig into the skin, for people who enjoy stronger sensation.

Prices vary by design, ask for current availability.
